Typically symptoms of depression will give out signs like prolonged sadness with or without specific reasons, wanting to be left alone, prefer to be in isolation and sometimes suicidal. Often people who are depressed will have no mood to be around with friends or other people and will show no effort at all even to have some enjoyment in life.

1. Manic / also known as Bipolar depression – sudden and often extreme changes in one’s mood. One minute the person is in euphoria or an elevated state extreme joy and the minute after that the person is feeling pure hell.
2. Postpartum depression – usually appear in a new mother or after having a baby. Studies show that this could be caused by extreme stress during child birth affecting the person mental health. Typically, a person suffering from postpartum depression will reject or having some uncertain feelings towards the new born baby.
3. Dysthimia – is a less severe type of depression and typically it is characterized by excessive sadness.
4. Cyclothemia – less severe case of manic or bipolar depression
5. Seasonal Affective Disorder – this one goes with the change of seasons. Usually people are known to be more depressed during the winter.
6 Mood swings – we all have this but if it is coming around more often then it could be a depression.

Depression affects our mental health and if it left untreated it may lead to suicide. Don’t let this happen to you or anyone for that matter. Depression can be treated and is curable. First step is to know the symptoms of depression and to acknowledge them and get help quickly the moment you sensed any of these symptoms of depression.
